Most skilled workers first came as students — 2 to 4 years studying, then 2 to 3 years on a Graduate visa, then 5 years on a Skilled Worker route. That is already 9 to 12 years before settlement. Double the final stage and you are looking at 15 to 20 years — longer than it takes to become a citizen in most countries in the world.
