James Sherratt is a solicitor with over 30 years of experience advising clients in business and property matters.

Having completed his training in the West End, he joined a Mayfair practice with offices throughout the Gulf and the Middle East: in Abu Dhabi; Cairo; Dubai; Istanbul; and, Muscat.
He later worked in a Holborn practice, with associated offices throughout the European Union advising high net worth individuals and large and small companies in complex commercial and litigation matters.
James has advised businesses including UK and middle-eastern banks, airlines, manufacturers, importers, and professionals; and UK based and overseas high net-worth individuals.

Property

James has particular experience in all types of property matters, including disputes over ownership, boundaries and rights of way.
He advises landlords and tenants of commercial and residential properties. He is experienced in acting for both landlords and tenants in opposed and unopposed renewals of leases of business premises. He acted in relation to the renewal of the lease of a casino at a 5-star hotel in Belgravia.
He has advised in planning matters, including an appeal to the Court of Appeal in a judicial review of decision of a planning inspector. He was acting for the owner of a scrapyard who had installed a fragmentiser for the recycling of cars on the question of the intensification of the existing use of land can amount to change of use requiring planning permission.
Banking
James has experience of acting for UK and overseas banks on the recovery of debts and enforcement of security over property in England.
He advised the directors of an insolvent Kenyan bank defending claims for fraud and mis-representation by an investor.
Commercial
james has advised business owners in various shareholder and partnership disputes.
James has acted for UK based investors in the purchase of a company seeking to develop open cast coal mining in Sind province, Pakistan.
Aviation
He has acted for a middle-eastern client in connection with the sale of Airbus commercial passenger jets to a newly established Afghan airline.
James has acted for European and Asian “flag-carrier” airlines, including in defence of a claim brought by travel agents for the payment of commission on ticket sales.
James advised investors on the proposed purchase of a former RAF station in South Wales and its development as a regional airport and commercial aircraft maintenance base.

Interest

James is a keen rugby fan, and can often be found refereeing and supporting his children play. Further, he works with the scouts helping shape children into future leaders.
