Charles is a qualified Solicitor with over 25 years’ experience in UK immigration law, encompassing Private Client, Corporate, Litigation and lnternational Protection work.
Charles began his immigration career in the mid-1990’s when he joined an independent organisation in London advising asylum seekers and refugees. In this capacity he presented in excess of 1,000 appeals before the Immigration Tribunal, enjoying a success rate considerably higher than the sector average. He subsequently managed a team of appeals advocates and was involved, at first instance, in the leading case of Horvath (‘sufficiency of protection’).
Charles subsequently co-founded a niche Immigration and Employment law firm in Berkshire, where he represented a broad range of private and corporate clients, including a number of ‘M4 corridor’ IT and technology companies, professional sports clubs and education providers. Charles also developed a broader litigation practice, successfully pursuing a number of diverse Judicial Review claims which included challenging the suspension and revocation of Sponsor Licences.
Returning to London, Charles took a Partnership position at a City law firm where he established a Private and Business Immigration practice. There he represented high-net worth individuals under the Tier 1 Investor and Entrepreneur schemes and maintained a small, high-profile political asylum practice in which he represented former government ministers, diplomats, high-ranking military officers and leading academics.
Charles also continued to develop his wider business immigration practice, assisting medium-sized enterprises across a wide range of sectors, including information technology, property, manufacturing, software design and public relations. His established reputation in business and personal immigration law led to him accepting an offer to join the London office of a major international corporate immigration firm where he managed their UK Private Client (General) Team before going on to establish a Private CIient (Complex and Contentious Cases) Team . At the latter he was particularly successful in challenging 10-year travel bans, sponsor licence revocations and Civil Penalties for alleged illegal working. While at the firm Charles was also recognised as ‘Immigration Advisor of the Year’ at the InvestUK High-Net Worth Awards ceremony and he spoke at conferences in China (British Embassy Beijing), Tianjin, Dubai and London to entrepreneurs, HNW and UHNW individuals.
In 2018 Charles joined a Central London law firm as a Partner where he oversaw the development of their newly acquired Immigration department. During this time h3 was also appointed as lead external Counsel to the Kuwaiti Embassy.
More recently, Charles has leveraged his considerable experience as a Consultant Solicitor, delivering bespoke immigration advice to his diverse private client base.
