Proposed Changes in UK Immigration Law

Whenever any changes are announced in the Immigration law, there is always some scare and confusion.

The following are the key features of these proposals in plain language:
1. Ten years of residence in the UK will be required to obtain Permanent settlement and Nationality.
However, some Professionals like Doctors, Nurses and Engineers can be fast-tracked.
2. The migrants are expected to show a high standard of English language.
The dependents will have to follow the same standards for the first time.
3. The recruitment of CARE staff will stop. According to the Home Office, 40,000 care staff have been brought to the UK by ‘rouge’ providers.
They will be allowed to work until local workers are trained.
4. The home office will receive reports on all crimes migrants commit. Previously, only the jail terms were reported.
The Home Office will have wider powers to deport offenders and cancel visas.
5. Some changes will be made in Article 8 ( Right to the family life  )
The definition of the
‘Exceptional Circumstances’ will be redefined.
6. The charges for the firms sponsoring the foreign workers will be increased by
32%.
7. Migrants will need a Degree to apply for a skilled worker visa.
Any relaxation in this will be time-limited and based on the shortage of workforce supplies.
8. The tests for colleges and Universities offering places to international students will be stricter.
9.  People on the Graduate route ( PSW ) can remain in the UK for 18 months instead of two years.
